Audience Research!
10 people participated in the audience research both males and females. My group has asked them the 6 questions we had planned earlier and that I wrote in one of the previous posts. The purpose of it was to discover what would appeal to the different audience of both teens and adults. All of the participants like the thriller/horror genre and they all have different films they like in that genre, whether it is "The Hills Have Eyes" because of the cannibals or "Insidious" because of the demon. These films scare the audience, keep them on edge and give them the adrenaline rush, which is why they like to go see them. The audience expects that these films will make them jump, scare them and show them something different that they can't get from other genres of films. Most of the audience agreed that the sound is the most important feature as this is what is actually used to scare the viewers and horror/thrillers would be not scary or as thrilling without it. However editing and cinematography were also mentioned as the type of shots and the way they are put together are also important factors to think about in order to achieve shocking, puzzling and terrifying the audience. In terms of the opening sequence that my group is planning to make, the audience gave us a positive feedback, as they thought that the combination of something unconventional, murder and mystery is something that is not often done and would work well together. This audience research gave me a better understanding of what audience like and want to see and I think it will help to make the opening sequence that my group is making more interesting, effective, popular and of-course more scary and thrilling, which is the aim!
