Preliminary Task-Elina Davies, Irena Toneva, Martins Ibeh!

This preliminary task will not get my group or me any marks for our project, however in my opinion it was still very important for us, so we could  get the feel of what it will be like when it comes to actual filming and editing our opening sequence. The task was to have a small scene of someone opening the door, going into a room and having a dialogue with another person; but also to follow the 180 degree rule, have match on action and have an over the shoulder shot. It seemed like a very easy task, but it took my group a while to complete it, as we faced a lot of technical issues. We had to re-film the video a lot of times, as either the sound would be set too low or the brightness would be wrong. After several unsuccessful attempts, we changed cameras and were finally able to capture a decent video. Then we transferred it from the tape to a MAC computer, to an editing programme Final Cut Pro. I had experience using this programme and editing projects in the past, so it took us about 15-20 minutes to edit the different shots from the video to make it into a small scene. I can say that our group did not struggle with the aims of the preliminary task, I think that we were fairly successful with them and if it was not for the technical issues we would have finished it much quicker. I was glad that we had this task, as it helped to remember and feel what it is like to film and edit, which will definitely help me and my group when we do our opening sequence.
